Jenkins ponders axe over Crows’ horror season start
Struggling Adelaide forward Josh Jenkins says he’s among a dozen Crows wondering if they’ll be axed amid the club’s horror start to the AFL season.
Jenkins says it’s “fool’s gold” to believe his spot is safe, as Crows players brace for further fallout after just one win from four matches.
“There should be 12 guys who feel the same as I do, there’s a lot of us who aren’t playing good enough footy,” Jenkins told SEN radio.
“And if we do feel comfortable and do think ‘nah, I just deserve a spot for what I have done in the past’ then that is fool’s gold.”
Jenkins is part of a misfiring Adelaide forward line, kicking just four goals this season with co-captain Taylor Walker and Tom Lynch scoring only three apiece.
And while coach Don Pyke has so far stuck with his attacking mainstays, he sent a ruthless selection message last week by dropping veteran midfielder Bryce Gibbs.
Jenkins said the dumping of 256-gamer Gibbs evidenced the plight of the Crows, touted as top-four contenders but sitting in 14th spot with only winless Carlton scoring less than them.
“I sit here not certain I will be playing this week … I’m just very understanding of the situation,’’ Jenkins said.
“I understand you can’t keep going into games and getting the same result, a result you’re not happy with.
“Bryce felt that wrath.

“I still think I have enough to offer the team to play this week but you have to earn your position.”
Adelaide’s lead ruckman Sam Jacobs will miss a third consecutive game when the Crows host Gold Coast on Sunday.
Jacobs was being re-assessed by specialists after suffering a knee injury in Adelaide’s sole win this season, against Sydney in round two.
