Food and drink happenings in South Australia, including the National Wine Centre’s City Cellar Door, Alpha Box & Pies, the French Market in Unley, two wine pop-up events, and the second edition of The Fruitful Pursuit’s Sundown.
The second edition of Sundown – the new small-scale concept from the minds of The Fruitful Pursuit – will be at Café Troppo on Saturday from 5pm until 9pm. For the lucky 75-ish ticketholders, winemakers from Brave New Wine, CRFT, Delinquente, La Petit Vanguard, Murdoch Hill and Somos will be showcasing their finest wines and imparting knowledge of their craft. Tickets can be purchased here and are $30, which includes a souvenir Riedel wine glass.
As well as taking over the Kings Head wine list for the month of November, Alpha Box & Dice has teamed up with the venue to create a selection of pie floaters, each matched with an accompanying Alpha Box drop. The short-lived menu features a snapper and chilli pie, floating in confit fennel and garlic puree, matched to the recently released Uncle Sauvignon Blanc; and a leek, mushroom and ricotta pie floating in cauliflower puree, matched with the Pink Matter Rosé. Adelaide Hills and Barossa winery Fox Gordon and McLaren Vale label Primo Estate will feature at the latest edition of City Cellar Door hosted at the National Wine Centre this Friday. The event will incorporate tastings from both wineries and enable guests to chat with the producers. Tickets are $40 per person and available here.

Leigh Street will host wineries from the Coonawarra at this pop-up event from 4.30pm until 7.30pm on Friday. For $5, punters can purchase a souvenir wine glass and taste releases from wineries including Yalumba, Majella Wines and Zema Estate.
French and French-themed gourmet goodies such as patisseries, cheeses, charcuterie and Beaujolais nouveau will be for sale alongside handcrafts, French language books, perfumes and more at the French Market in Unley’s Soldiers’ Memorial Garden. Among the new stallholders this year are Le Souk and Moorish Bites, selling French-Moroccan street food. The family event, which takes place from 5pm-10pm on Friday and 10am-10pm on Saturday, will also feature live music, wine tasting and kids’ activities. Details here.
Jim Barry Wines is popping up in the city, taking over Carclew House in North Adelaide and offering free wine tastings and wine warehouse specials available to purchase by the bottle or by the glass. There will also be food available from Sookii La La, ice cream from Evercream and a sausage sizzle from the JB crew. Tickets are available for $10 per person. The crew at Electra House are offering their guests a bottomless brunch on Saturday, December 2, from 12pm until 3pm, for the price of $65 per person. McLaren Vale Distillery’s master distiller, John Rochfort, will team up with Hains & Co to present the label’s unreleased Bloodstone single-malt whiskies, paired with canapés prepared by the venue. The next edition of Whistler Wines’ Summer Sessions will be held at the Barossa winery on Friday, December 8, from 5pm, with Chuck Wagon and Forage Supply Co supplying the eats. Further sessions are planned for January 12, February 9 and March 9.
Serafino Wines in McLaren Vale will once again host Hot Dub Wine Machine in December. The 2017 lineup will see Hot Dub Time Machine, The Presets, Bad//Dreems, Linda Marigliano, Benson, Heaps Good Friends, The Germein Sisters, Godlands and Falcona DJs set the vibe, while revellers will enjoy the host winery’s best drops. Vardon Avenue’s premier beer and whisky venue, NOLA, is turning two, and to celebrate it’s throwing a birthday beer festival featuring 26 breweries. There will be a roster of live music playing in the adjacent laneway, fried pickles and fried chicken po’ boys, plus a late night limbo competition.
The last winery to take over the National Wine Centre for City Cellar Door’s 2017 season will be French label GH Mumm. More details will be released closer to the event.
Executive chef of Electra House Jamie Kang will host guests for an interactive masterclass, in which he will demonstrate the art of sushi from the basics of rice preparation, right through to fish filleting and different sushi styles. Coriole Vineyards will host the fifth edition of Here’s To Now, a food and music festival presented in collaboration with The Happy Motel. Pizzateca, Comida and Devour Café will provide the food, Coriole will supply the wine, and the roster of artists will include FKJ, Jordan Rakei, Nai Palm, The Shaolin Afronauts, Man Made Mountain and Abbey Howlett. Rounding out the whole event is the reportedly very nice sunset, courtesy of the Earth, Sun and vistas of the Coriole property. Tickets are available for $79.70 here.
