Ebert, Hombsch locked away as Port’s signing spree continues
Port Adelaide have locked away tough midfielder Brad Ebert and key defender Jack Hombsch on new AFL deals, as the resurgent Power continues to consolidate its list.
Ebert has agreed to a three-year contract extension, while 24-year-old Hombsch has signed for another two seasons.
It comes after the Power yesterday secured draftee Sam Powell-Pepper to the end of 2020 and ruckman Billy Frampton through 2019.
The Power – who still have 14 players off-contract – had been waiting for the AFL’s new pay deal to be struck before finalising any new deals.
Every team will have extra salary cap space under the $1.85 billion collective bargaining agreement struck earlier in June.
Ebert, 27, has played 127 of his 203 games with the Power after starting his career with West Coast.
He has proven to be one of Port’s most durable players, missing just one game since arriving at Alberton for the 2012 season.
Hombsch struggled with injuries last year but has played an important role in the fourth-placed Power’s miserly backline this season.
Emerging star Powell-Pepper would arguably be the most prized signature of all considering the immediate impact he has made.

The powerfully built 19-year-old would have been certain to attract strong interest from his native Western Australia after playing every game for the Power in his debut year.
“From his first day at pre-season training Sam has done everything asked of him and more,” Port football boss Chris Davies said.
“He obviously has a mature body and that helps but his mature approach to training and preparing for games is what’s really impressed.”
