Upcoming food and wine happenings in South Australia, including Lavish Lawn Days with a pop-up gin bar at Beresford Estate, food trucks at Fork by Fork-West, and late long lunches at Cellar Door Fest.
Beresford Estate and Bickford’s are hosting two afternoons of entertainment this weekend as part of their Lavish Lawn Days series of summer events at Beresford’s Tasting Pavilion at McLaren Flat. There will be live music, lawn games, wine by the glass and bottle, a pop-up Gin Bar by Vickers Gin and Twenty Third Street Distillery, Mully Grub food and cheeseboards by Beresford. The event runs from 12pm-7pm.
Around 30 food trucks will converge on the Kings Reserve in Torrensville between 5pm and 10pm on Saturday for Fork by Fork-West. As well as sweet and savoury food from vendors including Cheesy Street, Delectaballs, Van Dough, Bodri’s Bakery, LocaPops, Four Seeds and The Rolling Pizza Oven, there will be craft beer and cider, wine, live music, kids’ activities and a display of classic cars.
The Hawke Centre is hosting two East African-inspired long-table dinners in its Kerry Packer Civic Gallery (UniSA City West Campus) this month. The three-course menu will be created by the MamaJama cooking collective, which employs and educates women from refugee and migrant communities involved in the Mazi Mas Adelaide project. Guests will also be able to enjoy work created by African artists for the gallery exhibition SANAA: A Better World Through Creativity. The dinners run from 7pm-11pm. Tickets are $70 per person.
Enjoy a Sunday on the Semaphore Foreshore Park with this family-friendly event hosted by the Semaphore Main Street Association. It will feature local food vendors, artisan wares, and carnival rides and activities. The event will run from 10am-4pm, with free entry.
The 2017 Cellar Door Fest is on this month at the Adelaide Convention Centre. There will be 180 wineries, breweries, distilleries and food producers providing tastings over three full days, with the chance to take part in masterclasses. A number of meet-the-maker sessions will be held throughout the weekend, where guests will have the chance to listen to some of South Australia’s best producers. There will also be Long Late Lunches with winemakers and producers. The festival will run from 5pm to 9pm on Friday, February 24, until 6pm on Sunday, February 26. Fassina Liquor Somerton Park is hosting a rosé and sparkling rosé tasting event in its tasting function room. Guests will be invited to enjoy a range of Australian and French rosé styles, with nibbles provided. More than 60 wines will be available from wineries including Langmeil, Deviation Road, Longview and Woodstock. Tickets are $15, with $10 refundable with any orders placed. OzHarvest, official charity partner for the 2017 Clipsal 500, is hosting this fun fundraising event at Plant 4 in Bowden. Guests will cook alongside chefs including Duncan Welgemoed, Simon Bryant, Dennis Leslie and Rosa Matto to help create meals that will be delivered to South Australians in need, before sitting down to a three-course dinner which will be followed by a live auction and Scalextrics racing against Clipsal drivers. A taste of Nepal will be on offer at the Nepal Festival Adelaide in Hindmarsh Square next month. Organised by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) South Australia, the event will run from 11am-8pm and include Nepalese foods, networking events, cultural programs and a parade.
1918 Bistro & Grill in the Barossa will be serving up some special Sunday brunches throughout this month to celebrate 25 years of business. The brunches, which begin on February 5 and run from 10am-2pm, will feature favourite menu items from the restaurant’s past, including Barossa pork belly with chilli caramel, and a scorched almond and Bailey’s ice-cream. And in a nod to 1918’s early years, when it served takeaway pizza to winery workers during vintage, there will be gourmet pizzas topped with seasonal produce.
Free Sustainable Living Sessions are being held at the Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market to encourage people to embrace food sustainability. Six long lunches will take place on the floating Riverbank Palais on the Torrens during the 2017 Adelaide Festival. The lunches will be hosted by chefs Cheong Liew, Cath Kerry, Christine Manfield, Mark Best, Karla Firla and Michael Ryan, with dishes paying tribute to the 1980s.
