Six Crows in All Australian calculations
The Adelaide Football Club has dominated selections in the AFL’s All Australian squad unveiled today, with six Crows garnering selection in the 40-man shortlist, the highest number of any club.
For Port Adelaide, rebounding defender Jasper Pittard is the sole nominee after consistently shining in the Power’s injury-hit backline.
Gun midfielder Rory Sloane, who fell from Brownlow contention last week after accepting a one-match ban for a clumsy spoil on Port Adelaide’s Brad Ebert, is in the mix for his first All Australian honours when the list is trimmed to 22 on Thursday.
Sloane heads an Adelaide list also including goalsneak Eddie Betts, breakout forward Josh Jenkins, running defender Rory Laird, as well as linkman Tom Lynch and previous All Australian inductee Daniel Talia.
The next best represented teams hail from New South Wales, with Sydney and GWS boasting five players each.
There are 24 potential All Australian debutants in this year’s 40-man squad, among them Richmond’s Dustin Martin, GWS co-captain Callan Ward and Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn.
