Martin Hinton appointed to Supreme Court
Adelaide QC Martin Hinton, the state’s Solicitor-General since 2008, has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of South Australia.

Hinton will replace Justice John Sulan who has retired.
Attorney-General John Rau said Sulan’s retirement and Hinton’s appointment were effective from today.
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Chris Kourakis, is also a former Solicitor-General.

Hinton has worked as a prosecutor in London and South Australia, including holding the position of Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in SA.
He holds Masters of Laws Degrees from the University of Adelaide and the London School of Economics. He became a QC in 2006.
Since becoming Solicitor-General, Hinton has represented the state in numerous High Court cases.
