Adelaide United “back on track”
Momentum is a wonderful thing in the A-League.
And defender Jordan Elsey believes Adelaide United finally have it ahead of their Boxing Day home clash with Wellington.
The Reds had their two-game winning run snapped by last round’s 0-0 draw in Newcastle after they hit the woodwork twice.
United are second-last and still chasing their tail as they try to resurrect their finals hopes.
But Elsey was adamant United had finally reversed their fortunes after waiting until December 6 to register their maiden season win.
Asked if he thought they were back on track, Elsey said: “Definitely.

“In A-League momentum is a big thing. It builds confidence, the weeks fly by – we want to keep the ball rolling (against Wellington).”
The Reds may be ninth but sit just five points behind sixth-placed Wellington.
Elsey said they didn’t have to be told where they had to improve after a frustrating last round in Newcastle.
In all, they had 16 shots – but not much luck – with nine on target against Newcastle but still couldn’t get past Newcastle keeper Mark Birighitti.

“We have tried to tighten up defence, now it is about scoring goals,” Elsey said.
“We will work on that this week and hopefully bring it all together (against Wellington).
“We are nowhere near our capacity, maybe it’s luck, maybe it’s quality but we will get there.”
The Reds may have claimed their season’s first point away last round in Newcastle after consecutive home wins but Elsey said United would not be taking Wellington for granted.
The Phoenix shocked United in November with a 4-2 win in Wellington.
“We know the Phoenix. They are tough to break down,” he said.
Even the prospect of training on Christmas Day has not daunted the resurgent United, Elsey reckons.
“I don’t care about presents, as long as we get those three points on Boxing Day,” he laughed.
