The opening of the new Royal Adelaide Hospital has been delayed until November 2016, at an additional cost to the taxpayer of more than $30 million.

Health Minister Jack Snelling said the hospital would be completed in July 2016, but the opening would be postponed until after the busy winter flu period.

The hospital was originally planned to be ready for handover by April next year.

The Government has also accepted partial responsibility for the delays, with Snelling revealing the State Government had completed negotiations with the construction consortium, the SA Health Partnership, about “unforeseen remediation works and time delays”.

Both parties had accepted responsibility, he said.

“As a result of these discussions, the additional cost to the State Government for remediation, site modifications and the new timeframe is $34.3 million,” Snelling said in a statement.

The exact date of opening has not yet been revealed.
