Industry to have say on skills and training

Sep 17, 2015, updated May 13, 2025

The largest skills survey of its kind in South Australia will canvass businesses, employers and industry about priority courses to drive the vocational education and training sector forward.

Industry across the state has been invited to take part in the far-reaching survey which provides the opportunity to have direct input into Government decision making.

The Training and Skills Commission, which provides independent advice to Government about the State’s skills and workforce development priorities, is seeking feedback about the qualifications most critical to the state’s future jobs.

The survey will help guide future government investment and departmental decision-making for future iterations of the Subsidised Training List, the list of courses that may be subsidised by the State Government through its WorkReady policy.

Training and Skills Commission chair Adrian Smith said the survey results will form part of the commission’s strategic advice on how South Australia can invest in a sustainable, highly skilled workforce, particularly in key growth sectors.

“The feedback we receive will help guide future government investment and inform departmental decision-making for future training requirements,” Smith said.

“A changing economy means it’s essential to get the right mix of skills in our state.

“Industry intelligence is vital because as we know, a skilled workforce plays a critical role in supporting industry and business.

“This, in turn, supports our economy and contributes to our state’s future success.

“With thousands of courses available, getting the right people with the right skills requires careful planning in consultation with industry.

“The survey, which has been designed with industry partners, is an opportunity for industry to identify their skills priorities.

“It allows businesses to directly engage with the commission and have a say about the priorities that are most important to them.”

The Training and Skills Commission’s industry priority qualifications survey will close on 9 October 2015.
