St Andrew’s Hospital has lodged plans for a $45 million expansion with the Development Assessment Commission.

The expansion, at the private hospital’s site in the south-east corner of the city, will include new day surgery facilities, procedure rooms, angiography suites, a 28-bed ward, a staff gym and a three-level carpark, two of which will be underground.

The hospital says the DAC application follows discussions with local residents, Heritage SA, the Adelaide City Council and the State Government’s Design Review Panel, which examines major development proposals before they go through the formal DAC processes.

St Andrew’s CEO Stephen Walker said he hoped to received DAC approval by early October, with construction to begin in early 2016.

The development, on a current staff carpark on the corner of Gilles St and St John Lane, was expected to take 18 months to complete, with up to 100 workers on site during the busiest times.
