The Crows have shored up their ruck stocks for the foreseeable future, with star big man Sam Jacobs inking a new deal that will tie him to the club until the end of 2019.
He described his scenario as “a pretty simple one”.
“I’m an Adelaide boy, I’ve had my time away…I wanted to come back and play for the Crows,” he told reporters today.
Already under contract for next season, the 27-year-old agreed to a new three-year extension, which could see him finish his playing days in Adelaide.
He’s played 105 games for the club since crossing from Carlton at the end of 2010, where he played 17 games.
Jacobs enthused there was “a very positive vibe at the club” with the playing group “galvanised”.
“We really want to play finals footy and get the club back to where it should be,” he said.
“I was always keen to stay on, I see a pretty exciting future here…there’s really strong depth at the club now (with) a lot of blokes stepping up this year, with Rory Laird the obvious one.”
Jacobs’ signature comes only a week after developing ruck prospect Reilly O’Brien committed to the club with a two-year deal.
The senior man, who has played almost a lone hand at bounces this year, said he was open to a tandem ruck proposition if the coaches wanted to trial it.
Jacobs is enjoying another consistent season, and joins a long line of Adelaide’s key personnel to have re-signed this season, including captain Taylor Walker and midfielders Rory Sloane and Richard Douglas.
That leaves retaining restricted free agent Patrick Dangerfield as the Crows major list-management headache, amid persistent speculation the marquee player is destined for Geelong.
