UPDATED: A South Australian court has cleared the way for a 24-year-old man to be extradited to Sydney from Adelaide after being arrested in relation to the murder of NSW schoolteacher Stephanie Scott.

Marcus Stanford appeared in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court today and was ordered into the custody of NSW detectives to appear in Sydney Central Local Court on Thursday.

Stanford will remain in custody in Adelaide overnight on Wednesday and is scheduled to board a flight to Sydney at 9.30am SA time.

He’s expected to be charged with being an accessory after the fact to Scott’s murder in the NSW Riverina town of Leeton in April.

Asked if he knew anything about the warrant for his arrest, Stanford told the court he did not and indicated he had not spoken to a lawyer.

Asked if there was any reason why he should return to Leeton, he said “Never been there, so I wouldn’t need to return”.

Stanford was arrested at a Forreston property in the Adelaide Hills early on Tuesday morning by NSW and South Australian detectives.

His twin brother, Vincent Stanford, was in April charged with Scott’s murder.

The 26-year-old bride-to-be disappeared six days before her wedding in the NSW Riverina town of Leeton.

She had been at her workplace – Leeton High School – on April 5 where she was getting her work in order ahead of her honeymoon.

School cleaner Vincent Stanford, 24, was later charged with Scott’s murder after police found photos of a burned body and blood, allegedly in his car.

He has also been charged with sexually assaulting Scott before her death.

Scott’s burned remains were found in a national park, more than 70km from Leeton, a day before her wedding.
