Adelaide player Brent Reilly has provided a video update on his recovery from a training mishap that resulted in a horrific head injury.
A grateful Reilly thanks his family and supporters within the club in a video released by the Crows yesterday.
Reilly, 31, suffered the collision injury during a training drill five weeks ago at Thebarton Oval.
He was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery, spending time in intensive care.
The 203-game backman sports a large scar and, the AFC’s website reports, has suffered irritations to nerves in his face, which is common with this particular type of injury and surgery. The club reports that the surgeon is confident the nerve damage is temporary.
Reilly says he has been undergoing rehabilitation with a neuropsychologist and a speech therapist.
He has visited his team-mates several times including, the club reports, a “surprise appearance at a team meeting, where the defender affectionately known as ‘Radar’ received rapturous applause as well as a standing ovation from his teammates”.
