Oxfam strives to help create lasting solutions to the injustice of poverty. It is part of a global movement for change, empowering people to create a future that is secure, just, and free from poverty.
In a rare occurrence, hear from two leading gender development specialists, Oxfam India’s Chief Executive Officer Nisha Agrawal and Oxfam Mexico’s Executive Director Consuelo López-Zuriaga Hernández-Gil. They will discuss the role of Oxfam’s work in their respective countries and the importance of gender equality in social injustice and the reduction of poverty.
Consuelo will speak about Oxfam Mexico’s work towards gendering inequality through looking at stories of Latin American heroines. The stories will not only inspire, but also remind us that without explicitly incorporating a gender dimension to inequality, the story is incomplete.
Nisha will tell of Oxfam India’s work on promoting gender and women’s empowerment. Describing “India as a paradox on gender equality issues”. Her talk will focus on the work of Oxfam India in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in a range of areas—economic, social and political. The audience will learn how “violence is an endemic part of a woman in India during her entire life cycle, from womb to tomb”.
The event is presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre and Oxfam Australia
