It’s all about relationships

While the tribal rivalry of South Australia’s two AFL clubs might not be replicated in the corporate sector, Melissa Mailler has brought her relationship management skills from the Adelaide Crows to bear at Business SA.

Mailler joined the peak SA business group as Corporate Partnership Executive this month after a seven year stint at the Crows as Executive Assistant to CEO, Steven Trigg, followed by a period of consulting work. Her title at the Crows was something of a misnomer as Mailler, along with managing the CEO’s office, was also responsible for managing the Crows board, executive team, life members and a raft of sporting ambassadors, celebrities and external stakeholders.

“I was really the relationship manager on behalf of the CEO,” Mailler told Business Insight.

Mailler is now charged with expanding and sustaining Business SA’s Corporate Partnership program, a recent initiative to offer tailored services to a small group of significant enterprises that help grow the business, save the organisation money, and “watch the company’s back”.

The program is a genuine two-way partnership with the skills, expertise and knowledge within Business SA being made available to the company which, in turn, is exposing Business SA to all of its constituent parts. Depending on the member concerned, such a relationship may, for example, involve a network of associated companies across the State or nationally.

“The corporate partners are invited by Business SA to join the program with one of the criteria being the capacity for that organisation to contribute to South Australia’s growth,” Mailler said.

“Part of my role is to help our corporate partners to collaborate with our Business SA members with the goal of achieving growth in both organisations. Put simply, I’m here to connect people to their mutual advantage,” she said.

“We will sit down with the potential partner, establish what that company needs, and work out how we can help them to grow. We also try and identify how other Business SA members can collaborate with the partner to assist the growth of those members.

“One of the very attractive benefits for corporate partners is that they are able to offer additional Business SA memberships to clients and associated entities. In doing so, each corporate partner is engaging with their customers and clients and building a stronger, integrated business nucleus in South Australia.

“Our ultimate goal is to stimulate economic activity and jobs growth in the State.”
