2015 Hawke Centre Program

Feb 04, 2015, updated May 13, 2025

Welcome to The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre event and exhibition program for 2015!

I’m delighted to present an eclectic and thought provoking program that will continue to inspire and challenge us, make us question and act, and further assist in creating a cohesive and compassionate society.

We begin by joining in the mad February/March months to partner with Mercury Cinema and The Media Resource Centre in the presentation of DocWeek. A fabulous documentary film program curated by Toronto International Film Festival documentary and DOC NYC programmer Thom Powers. Make sure you join us for an Australian exclusive event with award winning documentary film maker Erin Lee Carr.

To celebrate Chinese New Year, The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre and the Australian Centre for Asian Business at the University of South Australia, jointly launch a new book titled “Transformation of Rural Communities in China and Beyond”. The book will be officially launched by the Hon Jing Lee MLC.

We continue, in association with Adelaide Writers’ Week, with a tale of cannibals, colonialism and Michael Rockefeller’s tragic quest for primitive art when we present acclaimed US author Carl Hoffman as he discusses his latest book Savage Harvest. Through photographs and video, combined with his own tales, Carl Hoffman will tell the story of Michael Rockefeller’s disappearance in New Guinea in 1961 and the two very different journeys Carl made to Indonesian Papua to investigate what happened to Rockefeller and why. It’s part detective story, part history and part adventure into one of the remotest places on earth.

In association with WOMADelaide’s Planet Talk Series, Oceanographer Sylvia Earle and eco-hero Simran Sethi are joined by Dr Paul Willis as they discuss their passion for and dedication to a sustainable world.

The Kerry Packer Civic Gallery begins the year with a poignant and heart felt exhibition of new works from Kochi, India by local artist Daniel Connell. Xenosceptica 3 is the next manifestation of exploration of and challenges to notions of difference via the encounter generated by the hand-made portrait.
