Test quick Peter Siddle has ripped through South Australia’s batsmen to deliver Victoria a thumping Sheffield Shield win.
Siddle took five wickets as SA crashed to 130 all out in their second innings to lose by an innings and 46 runs.
The Redbacks lasted just 40.3 overs on Wednesday’s final day at Adelaide Oval.
Siddle was the architect of SA’s demise, taking 5-31 from 12 overs before legspinner Fawad Ahmed (3-12) cleaned up the tail.
Siddle claimed five of the initial six wickets to fall and, in the process, dashed the Test call-up hopes of SA opener Phil Hughes.
Siddle bowled the lefthander for 11, after also dismissing Hughes for seven in the first dig.
Siddle then outed Mark Cosgrove (eight), Callum Ferguson (four) and Tom Cooper (10) to leave the Redbacks in tatters at 4-42.
The Redbacks never recovered despite brief resistance from Tim Ludeman, who top-scored with 36.
The next best SA batsman was Johan Botha who made 21 – the rest failed to pass 13 in a pitiful batting display in reply to Victoria’s 7(dec)-607.
SA made 8(dec)-431 in their first innings.
