InDaily’s political commentator Tom Richardson was recognised as the state’s best columnist at Friday night’s SA Press Club Awards.

Richardson is a multi award-winner in the category for his long-running weekly political column in InDaily.

This year’s win was for three of his articles about the March state election – Holden transforms the election battle, Giving up on the battle of ideas, and I kinda told you so.

Richardson, Channel Nine’s state political reporter, will join InDaily full-time in January.

InDaily also won the top award for best sports photograph, with the judges taken by Michael Errey’s stunning image “Bloodbath at Adelaide Oval” (above).

The photograph, of blood-spattered Richmond player Nathan Foley, was taken during Port Adelaide’s huge elimination final win over the Tigers.

Editor David Washington was commended in the category “Best sports story in any medium” for his eulogy for Football Park. The category was won by Channel Nine’s Tom Rehn for his excellent breaking coverage of the sacking of Crows coach Brenton Sanderson.

InDaily’s Bension Siebert was a finalist in the young journalist of the year category. The category was won by Messenger Community News reporter Amelia Broadstock.

The night’s top gong, the Gold Award, went to News Corp’s Nigel Hunt for his outstanding work throughout the year, including this expose of the Families SA scandal. That report also won the InDaily-sponsored investigations category.

Stay informed, daily

The Australian’s Michael Owen won best news report of the year for his scoop about Labor powerbroker Don Farrell’s desire to enter state politics.
