Are you wearing a slave?

Nov 12, 2014, updated May 13, 2025

It is estimated that there are 27 million slaves in the world today. Reflecting on the 1948 UN treaty against slavery, this public lecture examines who is protected under the treaty, and what other measures still need to be taken to actualise the treaty and address modern-day slavery?

Roscoe Howell, founding Director of Slavery Links Australia Inc examines the trans-national slavery networks, including those operating in our own backyards and in the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Learn how Australia is part of the problem, but can also be part of the solution.

This event marks the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, and is co-presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre and Slavery Links Australia Inc.
