Essendon coach James Hird’s one-man courtroom stoush with ASADA is over but he must now play the waiting game, with the timeline for a ruling on his appeal unclear.
Hird broke ranks with his club when he challenged a Federal Court judge’s decision to deem the joint Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority and AFL investigation into Essendon’s supplements program legal.
He maintains he will be Essendon coach when the 2015 season rolls around.
“We’re very happy to have had our chance to put our case forward. We now look forward to the decision and go from there,” he said outside the Federal Court at the conclusion of his appeal on Tuesday.
Hird has argued ASADA illegally recruited the AFL to take advantage of the league’s coercive powers, but ASADA maintains it acted lawfully.
Justices Susan Kenny, Tony Besanko and Richard White reserved their decision to be handed down at a later date.
