Emerging midfielder Terry Antonis has been summoned into the Socceroos’ squad for the looming friendly against Japan.
The 20-year-old from Sydney FC and fellow A-Leaguers Aaron Mooy and Mitch Nichols have been rewarded for fine early A-League with selection in the 23-man squad.
Australia play Japan in Osaka on November 18, their last friendly before hosting the Asian Cup on home soil next January.
Coach Ange Postecoglou also recalled Brisbane Roar stalwart.
He made five changes to the squad that played the United Arab Emirates and Qatar last month with McKay, Nichols, Antonis, Mooy and Robbie Kruse coming in for Adam Federici, Bernie Ibini, Tomi Juric and Brad Smith.
Tommy Oar was not considered due to a minor injury.
“The Japan match is the final hit out before the Asian Cup and well have a good week of training leading into the game so we can continue to work on what we’ve been trying to achieve before we take on a tough opponent,” Postecoglou said on Wednesday.
“The squad weve selected has a core group of players we have been working with over the last 12 months but it still gives an opportunity to a few more younger players who have started the season well in the A-League.”
