Another standout performance from paceman Chadd Sayers helped lift South Australia to a remarkable eight-wicket win against Queensland in their Sheffield Shield match.
Chasing 228 to win, the Redbacks passed their target with just two wickets down some 35 minutes after tea on Monday’s final day at Adelaide Oval.
Mark Cosgrove (78), Callum Ferguson (65 not out) and Tom Cooper (68 not out) led a run chase only made possible by Sayers’ feats with the ball.
Sayers, after taking a first innings hat-trick, destroyed Queensland’s second innings with 6-34, his best first-class figures.
The Bulls resumed on Monday at 2-128 and in command, 203 runs ahead.
But Sayers, with help from legspinner Adam Zampa, triggered a stunning collapse – the Bulls lost their last eight wickets for just 22 runs.
Sayers took six of the initial seven Queensland wickets to fall before Zampa (4-45) cleaned up the tail to also post his best first-class figures.
SA then made light work of the run chase with Ferguson again prominent – he followed his unbeaten 100 in the first dig another polished not out knock.
