Local trainer Leon Macdonald has another bright prospect in the Spring Racing Carnival this year with Go Indy Go among the top fancies on Saturday for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield.

The $500,000 race is one of three Group 1 events as racing enters its classic month that culminates in the four-day Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington.

Macdonald says Go Indy Go can feature in either the Cox Plate or the Oaks if she runs as expected on Saturday.

Already a Group 1 winner as a two year old, Go Indy Go lines up from barrier six with Steven Arnold in the saddle.

“She’s at her top now,” Macdonald said.

“Steven worked her Thursday morning and he’s very happy with her.

“Shell run very well and that will put her on the Oaks path.”

The other big race in Melbourne is the $1 million Caulfield Guineas for three-year-olds.

Almalad could give last year’s Melbourne Cup winning trainer Gai Waterhouse a great start to this year’s carnival.

A winner of four of his six starts, is highly rated by Waterhouse.

“Almalad is already a group 1 winner and he is in the Cox Plate for a reason – because I think he will win it,” she said.

Unbeaten Rich Enuff is a $2.50 favourite for the Guineas with Almalad and Looks  Like The Cat at $5.50.

The other Group 1 for three-year-olds on Saturday will be in Sydney at Royal Randwick, with the running of the $400,000 Moet & Chandon Stakes, to be held over 2000 metres.

Meanwhile at Morphettville this Saturday, the South Australian Jockey Club hosts an eight race program, which is also highlighted by a race for the three- year-olds.

The $80,000 Listed Hill Smith Stakes, to be run over 1800 metres, features four Victorians out of the 10 acceptors but they will have stiff opposition from the locals in particular, Miracle The Second, Jim’s Journey and Turbo Street.

Leon Macdonald rates his entry, “On A Dream”, his best chance for the day.
