Former political adviser Matt Clemow has joined the Committee for Adelaide as its general manager.
Clemow, a former journalist who worked as chief of staff to senior Rann and Weatherill government minister Pat Conlon, takes over from Tim Horton, the former Integrated Design Commissioner who left Adelaide a month ago to return to his home city of Sydney.
The committee is a non-political collection of business and community leaders who want to build investment in Adelaide.
Clemow said he was proud of the changes that occurred in Adelaide over recent years, but the city needed to take the next steps to attract more businesses, investment and migrants.
“I strongly believe we now have the opportunity to take the next steps, to work together to have the important community debates and flesh out the next policy ideas that will make our great state even more attractive to stay in, to relocate to, or to come back to,” he said.
He said while Adelaide was often good at articulating the problems it faced, the community needed to become better at finding solutions.
“I think this is a really good opportunity to put a whole suite of solutions on the table, rather than just highlighting the problems over and over again,” he said.
Committee for Adelaide chair Colin Goodall said Horton had been an inspiration in the first year of the committee’s life and “research work done and data collected on similar sized cities will now help us to deliver as we go forward”.
Clemow has recently established a consultancy company with former Property Council boss Nathan Paine. He is also on the board of community housing project, Common Ground.
