Carlton expects to regain three players from injury for Sunday’s Round 10 clash with Adelaide at the MCG – Chris Judd, however, won’t be one of them.
Vice-captain Andrew Carrazzo (back), Jarrad Waite (back) and Tom Bell (finger) press their case for selection at training this week.
The Blues will need to make at least one change with Mitch Robinson out suspended.
Chris Judd has been ruled out of the Sunday afternoon game.
Judd injured his hamstring when the Blues played the Western Bulldogs minutes; the injury stunned supporters, coming just minutes after being subbed into the match.
The 30-year-old veteran has progressed ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation and has begun a high-intensity running program as part of his comeback, the club reports.
Initial reports indicated Judd could make a surprise return against Adelaide this week, but Carlton assistant coach Dean Laidley said the club would take a cautious approach with the dual Brownlow Medallist.
“He’s running … he’s starting to get some higher-end speed work in, so it’s a week-by-week thing,” Laidley said.
“We certainly need to make sure we get it right for his sake and obviously for the club’s sake, because we really want him to play some really good footy for us in the back half of the year.”
In another injury blow for the Blues, veteran Heath Scotland has been placed on the club’s long-term injury list and announced he will retire at season’s end due to an ongoing degenerative ankle injury.
Scotland has played 215 AFL games for Carlton since crossing from Collingwood at the conclusion of the 2003 season.
