Adelaide police have excavated a factory site in Adelaide in their ongoing investigation into the disappearance of the Beaumont children more than 40 years ago.

Police used ground-penetrating radar at the site at suburban North Plympton.

There were indications of possible objects within the soil, by police found nothing to aid the investigation into one of Australia’s most baffling cold cases.

Jane, who was nine, seven-year-old Arnna and four-year-old Grant Beaumont went missing on Australia Day, 1966.

Police Commissioner Paul Dickson said the latest line of inquiry was now at an end.

“The Beaumont family have been informed of this outcome,” Dickson said.

“They have been kept fully abreast of the investigation at all times.”

Dickson said Wednesday’s dig followed information provided by members of the public, who had recently come forward.

It also followed a recent television program and book which suggested a possible location for the bodies of the three children.

Stay informed, daily

“Police are well aware of recent allegations made in a book and aired in a locally produced TV program,” Dickson said.

“We have closely followed every element, allegation and piece of information in a professional, thorough and timely fashion as expected by the public in relation to major crime investigations.

“This detailed and appropriate investigation has closed off this line of inquiry, but police will always investigate the disappearance of the Beaumont children as and when credible evidence comes to light.”
