Light-City Buses has been fined again for poor performance as more buses ran late in the last reported quarter – despite the State Government’s attempts to fix the bus network.
Light-City’s on-time running performance on the troubled north-south routes dropped from 69.5 per cent to 68.7 per cent in the April-June 2013 quarter, leading to the State Government whacking the company with a $16,459 fine.
Since it took on the contact in 2011 Light-City has been fined a total of $413,309 for poor performance. The contract to operate the routes was worth $567 million when it was awarded in 2011.
After the fines resulted in little improvement in Light-City’s performance, the State Government moved in April to take eight of the poorest-performing routes away from the contractor and hand them to fellow operator Torrens Transit.
That move was not implemented until May. However, the figures available show that performance on Light-City’s routes actually fell between January and June – raising questions about the effectiveness of the Government’s strategy.
