Western Desert ready to roll

Adelaide-based miner Western Desert Resources (WDR) is on the verge of a major transformation from an exploration company to an actual mining company, its chairman said today.

The company has projects in the Northern Territory, including its flagship iron ore prospect Roper Bar, 600km south east of Darwin, near the Gulf of Carpentaria.

“It is an exciting moment in time for any mining exploration company when they actually become a producer,” WDR chairman Ric Allert told shareholders at today’s annual general meeting in Adelaide.

“In this context, I am pleased to say that Western Desert Resources Limited is on the verge of a major transformation from an exploration company to an actual mining company as in a few weeks’ time, we are expecting to report our first overseas shipment of iron ore.

“Unfortunately, the schedule for our first shipment has been slightly delayed due to the later arrival than anticipated of barging equipment from Indonesia as a result of industrial action.

“However, that equipment will shortly be en route to the loading facility in the Gulf of Carpentaria.”

Allert said the remote project had been challenging.

“We are proud that we have been able to achieve the development of the mine and the associated infrastructure, including a 165km haul road in record time.

“I assure you that all of your directors look forward to the coming year with great optimism and as a year in which we look forward to reporting sales revenues for the first time since the company’s formation in 2006.”

WDR aims to ship three million tonnes of iron ore.
