As the redeveloped Adelaide Oval welcomed its first crowd to a cricket match this morning, the cricketing public was given another bonus – cheap tickets to the 2015 cricket World Cup.

The Oval was the centre of attention this morning, with Premier Jay Weatherill tossing the coin for the first match on the Oval’s new surface – a Sheffield Shield contest between South Australia and Western Australia.

Just after lunch, a very healthy crowd of about 3000 people had entered the Oval for their first peak at the new set-up.

This morning, the local organising committee for the World Cup announced $5 children’s tickets and $20 adult’s tickets for pool games at Adelaide Oval, meaning a family of four would be able to attend for $50.

Weatherill welcomed the ticket prices, saying the spectacle would be affordable for most South Australian families.

Adelaide Oval will host three World Cup pool games and a quarter final.

“The Cricket World Cup is one of the largest sporting events in the world and the announcement this morning means it will be great, affordable fun for all the family,” Weatherill said.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 runs from 14 February 2015 – 28 March 2015.
