Another Good Reason to Visit the South Coast

Oct 25, 2013, updated May 12, 2025

With great food and wine on offer, not to mention magnificent scenery, there are loads of reasons to visit the Fleurieu Peninsula. This weekend there’s another reason to head out of town – the announcement of the prestigious Fleurieu Art Prize winner on October 26 and official opening of the works to the public on October 27.

With a main prize of $60,000, the Fleurieu Art Prize is the most significant landscape painting prize worldwide.

BankSA is a proud sponsor of the event. A festival has been built up around it comprising a rich combination of fine art, great wine, fine food and beautiful vistas of McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Peninsula as the finalists of the Fleurieu Art Prize are exhibited in wineries and galleries throughout the region during November.

The works on show are all of world class as the prize attracts artists nationally and internationally.

McLaren Vale and the Fleurieu Peninsula are renowned for their striking vistas and extraordinary geological formations. The area has long been the home and a source of inspiration for some of Australia’s most important landscape artists including Dorrit Black, Horace Trennery and Robert Hannaford.

Be sure to visit and enjoy the art, food, wine and other program events throughout November in local wineries and galleries.  For more details visit http://artprize.com.au/
