Setting our sights on the Asian century

Media technology has changed the way we view the world – radically empowering individuals to engage and voice their views as news stories unfold.

Our world, has therefore shrunk, and more specifically opened up access to our Asian neighbours. Yet at the same time, despite growing importance in our relationships with Asian countries, headlines are still taken up with sensational topics.

The Asian Century is out there and up for national debate and discussion – but ultimately it falls to people to utilise technology and apply nuance, sensitivity and curiosity in how we communicate with one another.

Explore with International journalist Jane Hutcheon the responsibility we have as consumers to connect with content, and shape better news stories about Asia. This provocative lecture was presented as the 2013 OzAsia Keynote address, Eyes on Asia: the Australian media’s blind-spot.
