Visitors to South Australia can now research attractions, book accommodation and restaurants, get directions and recommend places via social media with a new smartphone friendly website.
The new southaustralia.com mobile site responds to growing demand for digital services and by using a visitor’s location it can tailor the information provided.
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said visitors are increasingly accessing information online and via their smartphones.
“Consumer behaviour has changed significantly, with more than 80 per cent of travellers now going online to research and book their travel,” Mr Bignell said.
“More and more tourists are heading online to research and book their holidays so it is vital that our operators have a strong online presence.
“Mobile phone traffic to southaustralia.com has doubled in the past 12 months and we need to respond to these trends if we are to continue to be a leader in online tourism.
“The new mobile site showcases each region with useful information and ideas to encourage visitors to explore South Australia.
“Tourism information is displayed on an interactive map and users can select more information such as accommodation, events, sights, experiences, dining or cellar doors.”
Accommodation and experiences currently bookable online at southaustralia.com can be booked via the mobile site.
Operators who aren’t currently listed can register for free with the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse by visiting www.tourism.sa.gov.au and clicking on the ATDW icon.
Visitors can easily share their favourite places via social media such as Facebook and Twitter and Google maps will give directions from a user’s location to their chosen destination.
Online marketing workshops are being held throughout the regions during October and November to assist operators increase their online presence. Tourism operators who want to attend should call 8463 4512 for details.
