Anti-Poverty Week, 13-19 October

Oct 16, 2013, updated May 12, 2025

Poverty and severe hardship affect more than a million Australians and more than a billion people across the world. Anti-Poverty week aims to strengthen public understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty and hardship around the world and in Australia.

This is a week when we can all do something about poverty. In Anti-Poverty Week, YOU can help fight poverty and hardship, some ideas are listed below:

  • Write a letter to your local paper or MP about some aspect of poverty or other hardship that concerns you.
  • Start making regular donations to charities and ask friends and workmates.
  • Join in an Anti-Poverty Week activity which someone else is organising – see the calendar of activities at www.antipovertyweek.org.au
