The Palmer United Party’s founder, Clive Palmer, is considering standing candidates in the March 2014  State election.

And he says he wants to “make the State great again”.

Palmer’s party made an immediate impact on the federal scene last month securing three Senate seats and leading in a recount for the Lower House seat of Fairfax.

The party, however, had a lower impact in South Australia.

“We’re still considering what we’ll do in the State election,” Palmer told FIVEaa’s Leon Byner today.

“We didn’t have time to have the opportunity to get registered in South Australia.

“We do, however, have some good candidates down there so we will consider running them.

“We’ll make a decision by the end of November.”

Palmer said South Australia had “declined as a State” in recent years and he would be keen to part of the contest of ideas to “make the State great again.”

“We’d certainly like to play a role in the State.”

He told Byner one area that needs attention is the car manufacturing industry, suggesting that car makers such as Ford, Toyota and Holden should consider having common components and parts to provide economies of scale.

Palmer said he was disappointed South Australian Senator Nick Xenophon hadn’t joined the alliance he unveiled yesterday when the Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party committed to voting in a bloc with the three Palmer senators.

“We gave Nick our first preference but I was disappointed he didn’t reciprocate.

“He hasn’t given any indication he’s interest in joining us.”
