SANFL Premiers Norwood ended 40 years of tradition at West Lakes on Sunday and continued another tradition today.
The Redlegs said farewell to Footy Park with a comprehensive 40-point win in the last SANFL Grand Final at the ground on Sunday.
After beating the Bloods in 2012, the Legs repeated the dose with a grinding triumph against the Roosters, leading at every change.
Today the celebrations moved to the West End brewery chimney unveiling as one of the great South Australian football traditions celebrated its 60th year.
Each year since 1954 the brewery has painted the SANFL premiership team’s colours on the West End chimney.
The runners-up’s colours are painted below the winners.
In the beginning the chimney was located at the old brewery site in Hindley Street and the tradition continued when it moved to Port Road in 1982.
Standing around 25 metres high, the chimneys have been layered with approximately 1200 litres of paint since the tradition began.
Norwood coach Nathan Bassett is still contemplating his future as he weighs up interstate AFL assistant coaching roles.
“It’s been a good couple of years,” Bassett said.
“I’m a bit lucky with my career really as I grew up a Norwood supporter and then when the Crows came in I was a Crows supporter. I played my whole career at the Crows and now I am coaching Norwood so I don’t know how I would go at another club which I haven’t supported in my life.”
Bassett said yesterday the prospect was moving interstate was “a big decision to make”.
