The Entertainment Centre tram stop

RICHARD ABBOTT: Surely the obvious solution to the Entertainment Centre tram stop cafe dilemma is to place a converted old tram car as the cafe on the extension of the existing line . So if the line is ever extended the tram car cafe then moves down the line…

CAROL FAULKNER: More than anything I would like to see an end to world hunger, which makes it all the more frustrating to read articles that completely ignore the obvious cause and solution (Fix gender divide to feed the world, InDaily, 25 September 2013).

The closest Robyn Alders comes to even mentioning the real problem is: “As the human population increases and arable land becomes increasingly scarce, a spectrum of research activities is needed.”

Spectrum of research activities? Gender divide of farmers? Come on.

Unsustainable population growth is the problem and the solution must start with admitting that fact.

I just don’t get it. What is it? Is it just too crass for academics to say that the world’s spiralling population is producing more mouths than the planet is able to feed? It’s a reality, along with the other reality that simply by preventing unplanned pregnancies population growth would be dramatically slowed.

Widespread family planning education and availability of contraception can solve overpopulation and empower women. Crikey, let’s jump on it while we have a liberal-thinking Pope. Condoms for the world.
