Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has won Coach of the Year honours judged by his peers.

Hinkley was named the AFL Coach’s Association Senior Coach of the Year in front of over 600 guests at the 2013 AFLCA Awards Night in Melbourne.

He won the award in his first year as a Senior Coach after taking his team from 14th in 2012 to a final’s win in 2013.

Collingwood midfielder Scott Pendlebury, won the AFLCA Player of the Year Award, just one vote in front of Sun’s star Gary Ablett with Geelong captain Joel Selwood one vote further back in third position.

Each Senior Coach voted on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis after each home and away game this Season.

Leigh Matthews was announced as the AFLCA’s fifth ‘Coaching Legend’ following in the footsteps of John Kennedy Snr in 2009, Ron Barassi in 2010, Tom Hafey in 2011 and David Parkin in 2013.

Matthews received his award from two current Senior Coaches and former Lions players under him, in Brad and Chris Scott.

The Best Young Player in his first two years of AFL football was Greater Western Sydney’s Jeremy Cameron.

The Coaches’ nominations saw Cameron win narrowly from Port Adelaide’s Chad Wingard, with Brisbane’s Dayne Zorko in third place.
