With the warmer weather on its way these school holidays the Yorke Peninsula’s Coffee Barn Gelateria is the perfect food destination.
When Janette Martin and Franco Martini moved to Moonta Mines on Yorke Peninsula, they thought they were semi retiring and would just open a little Bed and Breakfast and Gelateria on the 27 acres of historical mining country they had bought. Janette pictured herself pottering in the garden and just popping in to serve the occasional customer.
Today, the Coffee Barn Gelateria, situated 2 km from Moonta on the road to Maitland is a huge success offering guests a truly international experience with Italy, Scotland, Cornwall and Australia all combining to make it a memorable visit.
Franco makes authentic Italian Artisan Gelato on the premises which is smooth, creamy and absolutely delicious as well as a range of fresh fruit sorbet and gelato cakes. Janette has created a gourmet pancake menu which offers a selection of both sweet and savoury pancakes made fresh to order. Add in great coffee, scrumptious homemade shortbread and handmade truffles… the hardest thing is deciding what to order.
For something extra special – why not stay the night at their little Villa Martini? Built in the 1860s, the former building known as The Stables, has been lovingly restored and decorated with lime wash walls and a typical European country theme throughout creating a bed and breakfast with a little bit of Italy in Cornish country.
The Coffee Barn Gelateria is open 10am-5pm Friday to Sunday as well as every day during school holidays and long weekends.
