OzAsia has ventured onto the page with a new, free litfest – OzAsia on Page – over the weekend of September 21-22. Hawke Centre Director, Elizabeth Ho will speak with Robin de Crespigny on Saturday at 1.30pm about her award winning book The People Smuggler. This is a gripping and true account of a tortured Iraqi man who pursued a path to freedom for his mother, siblings and himself – including through people smuggling in Indonesia. It raises many questions about the demonising of asylum seekers who come to Australia by boat and could not be more topical.
Again on Saturday at 4.30pm, Elizabeth Ho will lead a discussion on Food for thought : stories of family, secret recipes and love involving three well known Australians. Do not miss leading master chef – Cheong Liew, Ubud restaurant owner and founder of the Ubud Writer’s Festival – Janet de Neefe, and media personality – Annette Shun Wah, all of whom have written on food, as they share their culinary passions and the Asian-Australian contexts of their lives.
Presented by the Adelaide Festival Centre, in association with the University of South Australia, at Lyrics.
