Meet Barossa’s Food producers

Sep 18, 2013, updated May 09, 2025

Inspired by the Barossa’s culinary pedigree, a fresh crop of talented and energetic food producers are on the scene.

Each week we meet a new producer and find out more about their history, produce and importantly how best to enjoy it!

Zimmy’s Barossa Valley Produce

Steve Zimmerman uses recipes handed down from his grandparents to create the Zimmy’s Barossa Valley Produce suite of condiments. He established the business in 1985 to share his family’s traditional flavours with the local community. Now the distinctive label that pays homage to his grandparents can be seen throughout the region and well beyond.

Naturally made, with no additives or preservatives, Zimmy’s condiments stand the test of time. He is the only local producer of naturally cured dill cucumbers and the entire range of products is based on fresh garden produce.

But by far Zimmy’s most intriguing product is Doc Away, an apple cider and honey concentrate. Made with pure honey and handmade apple cider vinegar, Steve and his family enthusiastically affirm its curative power.

Fiercely proud of his Barossa heritage, Steve gets involved in many local initiatives. You’ll find him at the annual Tanunda Show, held in March, where he is the convenor of both the S.A. Dill Cucumber Championship and the S.A. Pickled Onion Championship.

Products: Beetroot Spread, Dill Cucumbers, Pickled Onions, Horseradish, Pickled Onion Relish, Barossa Pickle Dip & Spread and Doc Away.

Availability: Retail shops and supermarkets throughout the Barossa and South Australia, with some Australia wide distribution
