Australia’s best buildings this year include several massive monuments to serious science, including Adelaide University’s Braggs Building.

The 60-project national shortlist for the Australian Institute of Architects Awards was released today. An industry jury selected the projects from almost 900 entries.

Adelaide University’s $100 million Braggs Building, by BVN Donovan Hill and Hames Sharley in association, houses the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing, which is dedicated to research in materials science, chemistry, biology and physics.

It picked up the prize for public architecture in the state Institute of Architects awards in June and is the only South Australian project nominated for a national award.

The award winners will be announced in November at the Sydney Opera House. Below are InDaily’s favourite buildings from the national shortlist.
