InDaily’s editorial on Friday about the election struck a chord with some readers, while others are concerned about an Adelaide City Council proposal to build a separated bikeway on a section of From Street.
CAROL FAULKNER: Bravo, InDaily! You certainly do know your readers well, and your independent editorial on the eve of the election sets an example that others would do well to follow.
Meanwhile, the newspaper that loves the Murray sang Tony Abbott’s praises but didn’t raise a whimper about the Libs ‘rephasing’ (cutting) $650 million from the Murray Darling Water Buyback Scheme. Biased and hypocritical?
RUSS TALBOT: Thank you for your editorial. A breath of air and perspective. I needed that.
GRAHAM INGERSON: Having just walked home from the city and tried to cross Frome Street through the motor traffic I just wonder how these fairyland proposals are developed.
In the five minutes of waiting to meet a friend at least 200 cars passed my location and not one bike (motor or leg driven) passed by.
Why is it that those in power choose to treat the majority of our community with disrespect? I understand a few wish to ride bicycles but the majority of us love to drive our cars in our city. Can we just have consultation with majority who use our roads before the dreams occur?
JOHN LEWIS: I can only but agree with the critics of any proposed Frome Street bikeway. These council people live in a dream world and clearly never drive in peak traffic in the CBD. The Sturt Street experiment was a financial and traffic disaster. Frome Street will be worse still by some margin.
I am incredulous about how these myopic people are allowed to ruin our city and I, like many, rarely go there. Not one cyclist contributes financially to maintaining our roads, nor to the cost of this fiasco, unlike registered and insured cars.
