Journalist Annabel Crabb's mix of cooking and politics helped drive high ABC ratings last night.

Politics packed a punch on Wednesday with the ABC landing five shows, including Kitchen Cabinet featuring Tony Abbott, in the television ratings top 10.

Abbott revealed to Kitchen Cabinet host Annabel Crabb that he would probably stand down as Coalition leader if he fails to win Saturday’s federal election.

Kevin Rudd gets to show his skill in the kitchen on Thursday’s episode of the light-hearted series.

Kitchen Cabinet was the seventh most watched show on the overnight OzTAM ratings with 921,000 viewers and knocked off a few of the more fancied commercial shows.

It was also the second most watched show on the ABC behind Gruen Nation, which was third overall for the evening with 1.179 million viewers.

The other top performers for the ABC were political talkfest The Hamster Decides, which was eighth with 913,000 viewers, ABC News (ninth, 911,00) and 7.30 (10th, 899,000).

While the ABC was on a roll, there were some worrying signs for Network Ten’s new comedy drama series Wonderland.

The third episode drew 688,000 viewers to finish 15th – well down on its August 22 launch, when it was fifth with 948,000.

Also muscled out of the top 10 were Seven’s SlideShow, which was 11th with 830,000 watchers, and the Nine Network’s Big Brother, in 12th place with an audience of 807,000

Nine News won the evening with 1.264 million from Seven News (1.183 million).
