In honour of Mr Mick

Back in 1975 a young Tim Adams found himself under the wing of one of Australia’s wine industry greats, the late Karl Hubert Knappstein, aka Mr Mick. Serving as Mick Knappstein’s winemaking apprentice from 1975 at the historic Leasingham winery, Tim learnt the craft of winemaking.

Working with such a craftsman until 1985, when Mr Mick retired after 57 years at the winery, Tim developed his own winemaking style and established his own successful brand, Tim Adams.

After years of hard work building Tim Adams Wines, its cellar door and vineyards, Tim and wife Pam Goldsack saw the opportunity to expand their product range with the introduction of a new brand, Mr Mick, in honour of Tim’s mentor and friend.

In 2011, this new brand saw Tim and Pam buy the Leasingham winery, minus the Leasingham name, from Constellation Wines Australia. Returning to his first ‘stomping’ ground, Tim and Pam become the first private owners of the jam factory turned winery since the Knappstein family sold it to H.J Heinz in 1971.

Renamed Mr Mick, the Clare landmark winery has been given a new lease on life and now operates as the beautiful Mr Mick’s Cellar Door and Kitchen, perfectly positioned on the edge of the Clare township.

Mr Mick’s Cellar Door offers a range of Mr Mick wines for tasting and the tapas, made of seasonally fresh produce, making its way out of Mr Mick’s Kitchen is designed to capture the flavours of the region.
