Brownlow Medal favourite Gary Ablett is in line to make his seventh consecutive All Australian side, but two of the eight AFL finalists have no players in the initial squad of 40 named on Tuesday.
Richmond and Carlton have failed to get a single player in the squad despite making the finals.
Adelaide, who finished one game out of the finals, have two players in the squad, including Richard Douglas who is one of 25 players never previously selected for All Australian honours.
Adelaide’s other selection is Patrick Dangerfield.
The two key men behind Port Adelaide’s on field revival – captain Travis Boak and second year player Chad Wingard are in the squad.
Essendon, thrown out of the finals following the supplements scandal, have just one player in – skipper Jobe Watson.
North Melbourne, who failed to make the top eight thanks to several close losses, have four players.
Hawthorn, Geelong, Fremantle and Sydney each supply five members of the 40-man squad; Collingwood has four.
And Greater Western Sydney have had their first potential All Australian in exciting forward Jeremy Cameron.
The final team of 22 will be named at a function in Melbourne on September 16.
