The Kerry Packer Civic Gallery is presenting the artwork of two women artists united in their aboriginality – Muriel ‘Mumthelang’ Van Der Byl AM and Julianne ‘Ambo’ Jakaitis. Through art they come together to share stories of family, life and culture. A part of the SALA Festival, this exhibition runs until 11 September.
Paintings are executed in a myriad of colours and mediums that together form a kaleidoscope that acknowledges the spirits of the ancestors that occupy the landscape, and reflects the spiritual intensity of the lands, skies, waters, birds and animals – all symbolic of their personal connections with their country.
Exhibition proceeds will support selected Aboriginal students to further their advanced tertiary studies.
The Gallery is open 9am – 5pm weekdays, and for special viewing hours 2pm – 5pm, Saturdays.
