Round 20 snapshot;

THEY SAID IT: “How much money have you got?” a question from Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna to his media manager at the post-match press conference. Clearly it wasn’t enough, so McKenna decided not to give umpires the spray he wanted to over the treatment dished out by Melbourne tagger Jordie McKenzie to his star Gary Ablett. But his displeasure was obvious.

STATS THAT MATTER: 30-plus. That’s how many possessions Collingwood’s fab four midfielders Scott Pendlebury, Dayne Beams, Dane Swan and Luke Ball each managed in the outstanding 29-point win over Sydney.

MAN OF THE ROUND: Geelong’s Joel Selwood has found an eye for goal, and well as gathering possessions – and it spells danger for rivals heading towards finals. He booted four majors as well as his 28 touches to help the Cats see off Port Adelaide by 25 points at Geelong.

KEY MOMENT: Jack Riewoldt boots an unforgettable left-foot goal across his body from the boundary to steady Richmond as Brisbane come at them late. It seals the Tigers a 23-point victory, and their first finals appearance in 12 years.

TALKING POINT: When the AFL/ASADA bomb will drop on Essendon. It looks certain to be early this week. That could mean a further on-field drop-off for the Bombers, who have lost their last three matches by a combined 188 points, including a 53-point defeat by West Coast on Sunday.

TRIBUNAL WATCH: Essendon’s Dustin Fletcher faces a nervous Monday to see what action is taken for his high, late hit on West Coast’s Jamie Cripps. He is due to break Essendon’s club appearance record when he next plays.

KEY INJURIES: C Judd (Carl, knee), J Garlett (Carl, glute), M Watson (Carl, foot), B Moloney (Bris, hamstring), N Bock (GC, leg), J Gwilt (St K, knee), J Winderlich (Ess, hamstring).

UNDER PRESSURE: Carlton. Their 28-point upset loss to the Western Bulldogs means they look certain to miss the finals. Now instead of being premiership contenders as they thought, a big off-season clearout looms. Careers are on the line in their remaining three matches.

Stay informed, daily
