It’s August which means it’s time to immerse yourself with visual art at the SALA Festival. There is plenty on offer and if you are looking for some guidance you might like to take a tour or go an artist talk. Here are a few highlights.
Luminous Art Trail by Illuminart
2 August – 25 August – Wednesday 6pm-8pm, Sunday 6pm-8pm
Depart 27 North Parade, Port Adelaide
Join us on an illuminated guided walk and talk around the streets of Port Adelaide and discover interactive art and playful spaces that will delight kids and grownups alike. The tour will feature luminous artworks and sculptures, light box art, UV art, exhibition windows, projected gallery spaces, artists windows, light installations and moving images. Hot chocolate available along the way!

Other tours include a Word Art Tour on Friday 16 August, Aboriginal Art Tour on Saturday 17 August, bi-lingual Chinese Art Tours every weekend, special Yelp art tours plus much more. Artist talks are happening throughout the Festival – a key event will be Let’s Talk about Art and Words on Friday 16 August, also part of the inaugural Word Festival, the event presents this year’s SALA Publication recipient Stephen Bowers and special guests in a conversation about the intrinsic relationship between art and words.
SALA on Show
The SALA Festival will culminate with a final day celebration, SALA on Show on Sunday 25 August 10.30am – 5pm at Unley Shopping Centre on Unley Road. This huge day of visual art activities includes a pop-up gallery with art works for sale, artists in residence, free children’s art workshops and entertainment throughout the day. www.salafestival.com
