It’s not even August yet however a number of SALA Festival exhibitions have already opened and are ready for visitors. Here are a few to get you started.
Beyoncé is a Feminist at Fontanelle 26 Sixth Street, Bowden
Beyoncé is a Feminist is a curated exhibition that challenges the conventional model of most shows by presenting a circular based conversation, anchored by the idea and proposition relating to the statement – Beyoncé is a Feminist. Acknowledging all the ongoing dialogues, work and commitment of women artists all over Australia, Fontanelle proposes a discussion/research-based exhibition that actively discusses the current position and status of Feminism in contemporary art.

Striking a Chord at Fox Creek Wines Gallery 90 Malpas Road, McLaren Vale
Bringing together in harmonic resonance the disciplines of jewellery, sculpture and painting; Fox Creek presents Kim Thomson, Westley Tully and Shelley Hughes. Kim’s kinetic and sustainable assemblages embody notions of play and pattern; derived from ancient and indigenous cultures. See Westley’s award winning immersive installation “Luminescence” along with a selection of bronze skeletal fish compositions. Shelley’s paintings explore musical instruments their vibe and associated frenetic energy, using components of visual form and functional design.

Tough(er) love: art from Eyre Peninsula at WestArt Gallery, 31 Poynton Street, Memorial Hall, Ceduna
Curated by John Neylon and presented by Country Arts SA Visual Arts Touring Program, ‘tough(er) love’ is a major collaborative exhibition of new work from Eyre Peninsula based artists. Selected works from this celebratory exhibition can be viewed at WestArt Gallery from 4 July – 2 August, as well as within the Ceduna District Health Service Foyer Gallery at 3 Eyre Highway, 8:30am–5.00pm Monday to Friday, from 1 July until 15 August 2013.
