BRIAN JORDAN: There is no doubt that if the Crows and the Power are allowed to put reserves teams in the SANFL, it will be the death of the local league. The Crows and Power will be so powerful they will play in every grand final and the local teams will gradually fall in to oblivion. So, please, please don’t do it! We, the general football public still want our Redlegs, Bulldogs, Roosters, etc, to survive.
TERRY GEORGE: Crows and Power reserves are better off in the VFL, where they would play Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, etc, reserves sides every week. If it means paying for a Vic team to come and play in Adelaide (Footy Park, perhaps?) every second week, that is a lot less than paying SANFL teams exorbitant amounts for the privilege of playing against them. It is inevitable that the VFL will morph into a national reserves comp sooner or later.
EDWARD J BURGESS: The SANFL needs to either go to 10 teams or drop down to eight teams. The easiest way to achieve a 10-team competition is to allow the Crows reserves to become the tenth team and for Port’s reserve team to become the Magpies. Port Magpies could retain its reserves, u18 and u16, with its recruiting zone being the top half (population wise) of the state. The Crows could have the same deal, with their recruiting zone being the bottom half of the state. The existing Port recruiting area could be split up among the other 8 SANFL teams. The AFL would remove the South Australian teams from the current slave trade and allow them the first five picks each from South Australia every year.
